Ballina residents will soon be able to enjoy bigger and better sports fields and outdoor spaces thanks to NSW Government funding announced today.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres and Nationals Parliamentary Secretary for Northern NSW Ben Franklin today announced that $1.75 million will be invested in a range of sports fields and outdoor spaces in the Ballina Shire.

Mr Franklin said the package of funding includes $400,000 for drainage and irrigation at the new Wollongbar Sports Fields, $990,000 for the new Skennars Head Sports Fields in Lennox Head and $79,000 to upgrade lighting at Williams Reserve.

“Sport is the lifeblood of our community, and we want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to take part in local sport. That is why the NSW Government is making this investment into our local sports fields,” Mr Franklin said.

“The Wollongbar Sports Fields are a focal point of local sporting pursuits. Since they were opened earlier this year, the fields have been an incredible asset to the community.

“This extra funding announced today will improve the drainage and irrigation at the fields and make them top quality for players and spectators.”

Mr Ayres said that it is a key priority of the NSW Government that everyone has the opportunity to take part in local sport or has access to open space.

“We are able to deliver this funding today thanks to the strong advocacy of your local Nationals representative Ben Franklin,” Mr Ayres said.

“Ben knows how important sport is for this region and that is why he has ensured NSW Government has invested in these worthwhile projects.

“Once completed, these projects will allow our community and generations to come to not only have better access to facilities but to also have the ability to dream big and reach their sporting potential.”
