Applications for the NSW Liberal & Nationals Government’s $250 Regional Seniors Travel Card are now open for those living in the Ballina and Lismore Electorates.

Eligible seniors can apply through www.service.nsw.gov.au, by calling 13 77 88 or visiting a Service NSW Service Centre.

North Coast Nationals MLC Ben Franklin said the card would ease the cost of travel for eligible regional seniors.

“Travel is one of the most significant expenses for residents living in rural and regional NSW, which is why the NSW Nationals in Government committed at the 2019 election to reducing that cost for seniors.”

“The NSW Nationals in Government are making it easier and more affordable for them to stay connected with family and friends, as well as accessing essential services including medical appointments and shopping centres.

“The card is able to be used for pre-booked NSW TrainLink Regional services, taxis and fuel, helping seniors get to where they need to go.”

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said applications were open from today through Service NSW, with cards expected to be posted out to eligible seniors from mid-late February, following a successful pilot in Coffs Harbour.

“We are running a three week pilot in Coffs Harbour to ensure every step of the process is a smooth and hassle-free experience for both seniors and retailers in the bush,” Mr Toole said.

“Following this trial, the card will be posted to seniors, with a PIN to follow a few days later with an explanation on how to activate the card.

Eligible seniors will have a minimum of 12 months to use their card from the time of activation.

To be eligible to receive the $250 Regional Seniors Travel Card you must be an age pensioner with a valid Pensioner Concession Card or hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card issued by either the Department of Human Services or Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Seniors must also live in regional NSW outside Sydney, Newcastle or Wollongong City Council boundaries.
